The competitions take place at Arena Carioca 1, until the 13th of December, with the participation of more than 170 athletes from 40 countries
The Opening Ceremony of the Rio de Janeiro 2022 Boccia World Championships took place this Monday, 5th, with a special tribute to the greatest Brazilian boccia player, Dirceu Pinto, who died in 2020 due to heart problems. Dirceu won three of Brazil’s seven medals at world championships, two gold and one silver.
The Rio de Janeiro Boccia World Championships 2022 is the most important boccia competition of the cycle until Paris 2024 and has more than 170 athletes from 40 countries. The event starts on Tuesday 6th and will happen until the 13th, starting at 9:30 am, with free entrance to Arena Carioca 1 and live transmission on ANDE’s Youtube channel, tournament organizer.
In addition to the presence of Dirceu Pinto’s parents and his sister, who brought five medals to Brazil at the Paralympic Games, a giant panel was created that will be displayed in the competition area with a graphic of the athlete. And, the great sensation was the creation of the mascot Dibo, which is a contraction of “Dirceu” and “da Bocha”.
